Weekly Inking Showcase: Grifter with Daniel Sampere... DC Editorial had me work with Daniel Sampere enough times that I wondered if they were considering having us be somewhat of a team. I've never even met Daniel once, but I enjoyed inking his pencils. I would work with him again. Solid pencil work and does action & drama very well, in my opinion. There's a Bryan Hitch Ultimates quality to some of our Grifter pages, I think. I kinda liked how these two pages turned out and thought it would be fun to showcase them. As I've gotten older, I find myself becoming more of the kind of inker I always thought Klaus Janson was... I always personally saw Janson bring more style and interesting shapes to his inking work than rendering. Rightly or wrongly, that's what I always saw prior to reading his Inking for DC book. I think these pages have a bit of that Janson flair. After all these years, Klaus Janson is still my fav inker. I hope you enjoy seeing these pages in full detail. Now I'd approach these pages differently, but at the time we were also in a bit of catch-up mode due to some deadlines, if memory serves. It would be fun maybe to start inking again... besides my own pencils, of course. -Dave B.
