Cover Art Weekly: SMK #1 by Andy Carreon

For this Cover Art Weekly installment, we are featuring the cover for SMK #1 by Andy Carreon. Andy and I have been friends for some time now, but I've been a fan of his art for much longer. I used to see his art on display at sometimes the most unusual of places, such as the Arizona State Fair... and you couldn't help but notice the unique nature of how he rendered and constructed his figures. There was a quality of his work that reminded me of Whilce Portacio and Alex Niño, who I am a huge fan of. Several years ago, a friend suggested that Andy might be a fantastic cover artist to relaunch Bushi Tales with, something I had been wanting to do for years. Ask co-creator Lin Workman, and he'll confirm I kept bringing it up over and over... anyhow, I thought bringing Andy onto the Bushi Tales team sounded like a great idea. Fast forward a couple of years later, and he was asking me about Sailor Moon Knight, or as we (Albert Morales, Andy, and myself) would later call it,
I had designed this sticker years ago and was just giving them away for fun at Phoenix Fan Fusion. People kept asking where the book was, and at the time there was no book. Now Andy was asking about. I thought he'd be a great cover artist for SMK. We will be bringing a color and expanded edition of SMK #1 to a crowdfunding platform in a couple of months. Without further ado, here are Andy's pencils to inks for the cover to SMK #1. You can see more of Andy's work on his website: https://www.andycarreon.com/
