Weekly Inking Showcase: Grifter Deathblow!
For this week's Inking Showcase, we will be featuring two pages from Grifter #10 penciled by Scott Clark and inked by me... I mean, it is my blog after all. Anyhow, Grifter featured many of the Wildstorm characters while being clearly set in the DC Universe as well. I often think of this time as my version of when DC introduced the Charlton characters like Blue Beetle, Question, and Peacemaker into the DCU way back in the 1980's. If you're unfamiliar with this... feel free to send me a message, and I'll point you in the right direction. Is Grifter like Peacemaker... of course not, but what it does represent is that idea- taking a character from an entirely different universe and finding a place for them in an already established universe. And here we have Deathblow in Grifter... or as I woulda called it, Grifter Deathblow! Those who might think lightly of this era would be loath to learn that Grifter was part of the Bat-office titles for almost the entirety of his run when I worked on the book. That's why he showed up in Batman books later on for those who missed out. Scott's work at this time was probably the best, in my humble opinion. Well worth picking these books up if you like not just superhero books, but G.I. Joe or Alien Invasion stuff like the cult classic film "They Live". Enjoy. -Dave B.
