In brightest day, in blackest night... Deathstorm. We will be featuring a few pages here from Brightest Day on the blog. But we're definitely starting with what the kids would call a 'banger'. The original plans for Blackest Night Firestorm (we didn't know he was going to be named Deathstorm until this issue) were to really lean into the death/ zombie aesthetic, and we were going to ink the character in negative/ reverse. I'll showcase an example of that in a later post. The schedule for Brightest Day being twice a month and not knowing how many pages we'd be getting in advance made this difficult, so we abandoned that idea. For your viewing pleasure are Scott Clark's pencils and the final inked page. This, like most of our work started outside the computer at this stage but would be completely reworked on the computer for the final art. Eventually we went to a totally digital workflow. But to quote Bane from Dark Knight Rises... "That comes later". It's been fun seeing the version Scott and I created for Brightest Day be made as action figures, statues, and even as a villain on the WB TV Show "The Flash". I wish Scott could have seen that. -Dave B.
